The Jersey flag will be flown from the Ministry of Justice in Westminster on 9th May to mark the anniversary of the liberation of Jersey and the Channel Islands from Nazi occupation.
The Secretary of State for Justice, in his capacity as a Privy Councillor, has responsibility within the UK government for the relationship between the Crown and the Crown Dependencies.
It is proposed that marking Liberation Day in this way will become an annual event, alternating between the flags of the Channel Islands.
Senator Sir Philip Bailhache, Minister for External Relations, said:
“On this 70th anniversary of the Islands’ liberation, I am delighted that the Ministry of Justice has recognised the special position of the Channel Islands as the only parts of the British Isles to be occupied during the Second World War, and that a Channel Island flag will fly over Whitehall”
