Select USA visits Jersey

October 10, 2019

Officials from the US Embassy in London and SelectUSA are visiting the Island this week, as part of ongoing work to help Jersey companies identify opportunities to create and expand business links with the United States.

SelectUSA is a U.S. government-wide program led by the U.S. Department of Commerce, whose aim is to facilitate business expansion & investment into the United States and raise awareness of the critical role that economic development plays in the U.S. economy.

Local firms have been learning about the U.S. business environment, its tax and compliance requirements and the Federal and State government support available. The event, coordinated with Jersey Business, Digital Jersey and Jersey Finance, and held at the Digital Jersey Hub, aims to help Jersey companies build a strategy for growth in the U.S.A. Over the next two days businesses will have the opportunity for 1-2-1 discussions with US tax and legal experts.

While in the Island, the U.S. delegation will also be meeting Ministers from the Government of Jersey, representatives from Jersey Business, Jersey Finance, Digital Jersey and government officials.

External Relations Minister, Senator Ian Gorst, said: “I am pleased that the relationships the Government of Jersey has built with Select U.S.A. and Commercial affairs sections of the US Embassy in the UK have resulted in this inward visit to the Island. It offers opportunities for local businesses to learn about doing business with the U.S.A. and to take part in 1-2-1s to support their individual business plans.”

The Chief Operating Officer of Jersey Business, Alexia McClure, said: “The knowledge and experience that the SelectUSA team brings is hugely beneficial for Jersey companies working in, or investigating, the US market. We are delighted to have worked with External Relations to coordinate this visit and will be supporting our companies to maximise their opportunities in the U.S.
